Salary guide

Compare the whole offer, not one number.

Two roles with the same headline salary can feel very different after allowances, incentives, working hours, commuting, benefits and job security are considered.

01

Confirm the pay basis

Ask whether the figure is monthly, hourly, daily or annual, and whether it is base pay or includes variable incentives. For shift or part-time work, understand minimum hours and how overtime is calculated.

02

List the complete package

  • Base salary and fixed allowances.
  • Commission, bonus or service charge and how it is earned.
  • Medical, insurance, leave and retirement contributions.
  • Equipment, internet, travel, meals, accommodation or shift support.
  • Probation terms, notice period and contract duration.
03

Include the cost of working

Compare commute time, parking, tolls, meals, childcare, work clothing and home-office costs. A hybrid or remote role may reduce some expenses but add equipment or connectivity needs.

04

Ask before accepting

Request the final compensation, workplace, hours, benefits and conditions in writing. For statutory matters, confirm current information with KWSP, PERKESO or the relevant Malaysian authority.
